Tho Flora, which arrived here early yesterday _ morning from Gisborne direct, sailed last night for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Napier, and Gisborne. The Waimarino sailed early yesterday morning for Oamaru, whore she will complete discharging her wheat cargo from Port Pinio She will then return to Port Chalmers to dock for overhaul. The Kittawa is to leave at noon to-morrow maru ’ Gre yniouth, and Westport. The Corinna, from New Plymouth, is due here to-day, and is to sail to-night for Oamaru, Timaru. The New Zealand Shipping Company adXises that portion of tho Dunedin cargo ex the Tekoa, from London, via Auckland and Wellington, is duo hero per the Wanaka today. The balance will be forwarded by the .Navua, .which is due here next week. Tho Arbitration Court has given two findings on questions for interpretation submitted to it in connection with the Seamen’s and Firemen’s award. The court decided on Friday that overtime ia not payable for tho time a day-man is employed in cleaning tops at sea on a Sunday or holiday. Another question submitted to tho court was: “Where a donkeyman or fireman is worked eight consecutive hours, and tho ship sails during tho 34 hours, period during which such eight hour* are worked under clause 16 (c) of tho award, thus prohibiting the man from receiving of! in port the balance of such 24 hour period is the employer within his rights in working tho man' tho eight consecutive hours in such period?” The court decided in a typical case submitted that the, donkeyman worked 12 houns partly in port and partly at sea, during the calendar dav, and should therefore have been paid for four hours at overtime rates. The Union Steam Ship Company’s intercolonial passenger steamer Mocraki, from Melbourne, via Bluff, is expected here today. She is scheduled to sail to-morrow for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Melbourne. THE NORDBO. Messrs Neill and Co. advise that the Danish motor ship Nordbo, which was in port last week, is to leave Pacific Coast porta about the middle of November with cargo for New Zealand porta. THE lONIC. The National Mortgage and Agency Company has received wireless advice that the S.S. and A. Line steamer lonic, from London and Southampton, is due at Wellington late on Sunday afternoon. THE TREMERE. The Hain Line steamer Tremere, from New York, via Auckland, is expected to leave Wellington to-day for Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin, and Bluff to complete discharge. ADELAIDE COMPANY’S LATEST. Ulooloo is the name selected for the Adelaide Steamship Company’s new steamer. She is at present under construction in the United Kingdom. OMAR RENAMED EDISON. The Oman, which was recently sold by tho Orient Line, was purchased by tho Byron Steamship Company Ltd.), of London. She baa been renamed Edison. LARGO LAW DUE TO-DAY. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Largo Law, from Montreal, via Newport News, Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Timaru, is due here today to continue unloading. She will probably sail to-morrow for Adelaide, whene she will complete discharging. PERSONAL ITEMS. Captain A. E. Barlow, lately master of tho Union Company's R.M.S. Maknra, has resigned from the company’s service. He arrived at Sydney on Tuesday last by the Maheno from Wellington. Captain Jalland, of the Australian Commonthwealth Line, is to command the new steamer Ferndale on her completion. Ho waa formerly in the Bakara. Mr M'Gregor, the chief officer, has taken up duty connected with the building of the Ferndale. Captain E. L. TAIYUAN FOR HONGKONG. Messrs Neill and Co. (Ltd.) advise that the Taiyuan, from Hongkong, is to leave Sydney on the return trip on September 3. PORT DENISON’S ITINERARY. The local agents of the Commonwealth and Dominion Lino steamer Bert Denison advise that there is a probability of this steamer completing her loading at Auckland for London, about the end of September or early in October. She was originally fixed to loud at Bluff, Lyttelton, Gisborne, Napier, and Wellington, Auckland being excluded. The Port Denison is at present in Australian waters, , CANADIAN GOVERNMENT STEAMERS. BUOYS IN JERVIS BAY. The secretary, General Post Office, has been advised that the following navigation warning has been broadcasted from Sydney; —"Rod spherical buoys not for navigational purposes have been placed in bay, southern portion of Jervis Bay should not bo approached within one mile. —Navy Office.” THE SCHOONER TANGAROA. The Nobel Explosive Company's schooner Tangaroa. is now being refitted at Auckland. The engines and masts have been lifted out, and she will be reriggod as a topsail schooner. Tho engines will not be reinstalled as it baa been decided to run the vessel without auxiliary power for a time, but subsequently she will be fitted with a twin set of engines. It is expected that the Tangaroa will ha ready for sea about the beginning of October. NEW STEAMER FOR ISLAND TRADE. A single-screw steamer, built by Messrs Harland and Wolff (Ltd.) for the Island trade, was launched at Govan on July 1. Built to British Corporation requirements, she will be classed B.S. (with freeboard), is 120 ft in length b.p. by 23ft breadth by 10ft depth, and has a gross tonnage of 229. As the vessel ia to be employed in the copra trade, two gangway doors are fitted in tho bulwark abreast the hatch to facilitate the rapid handling of cargo. The engine is of the tri-compound inverted direct-acting surface condensing type standard “Challenge” pattern, and the boiler is 10ft diameter, made by Messrs M’Kie and Baxter, Govan, designed to give a sea speed of 9} knots. CLAN MACMILLAN WRECKED. News by the English mail recently states that tho Clan Macmillan struck upon a reef near the Preparis Shaol, in the Bay of Bengal. Tho steamer had sailed with general cargo from the Clyde and Liverpool, a largo part of which had been discharged at Calcutta. She had left tho latter port at the time of the accident, and waa on her way to Nokunlofa, in the Friendly Islands when she encountered the gale which caused her to drive ashore. She was 6608 tons and was built in 1918, belonging to tho wellknown. Clan Line, managed by Cayzcr, Irvine, and Co., with whose fleet she was insured on a value of £102,000. GERMAN SHIPPING. The vessel will continue on her voyage to Vancouver, via Suva and Honolulu, the following day. The R.M.S. Makura is to leave Vancouver to-day for Auckland, via Honolulu and Suva, should arrive at Auckland on Monday, September 13, continuing on her voyage to Sydney the following day. TRANS-PACIFIC SERVICE. The Union Company reports the following movements in the trans-Puciific cargo service: Hauraki is expected to leave Wallaroo this week for Lyttelton and Auckland. After completing discharge at Auckland she will proceed to Fanning Island, thence Vancouver and Sah Francisco to load late in Octoberi and early in November for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney. Waiotapu left Auckland on Friday last for Vancouver and San Francisco to load during the latter part of September and early in October for Auckland, Melbourne, and Sydney. . Wairuna, from Vancouver, Union Bay, and Powell River, is expected to leave San Francisco this week foa Auckland, Wellington, Sydney, and Melbourne. Waikawa loft Newcastle on Thursday last for Fiji, thence Vancouver and San Francisco to load during the latter part of September and early in October for Napier, New Plymouth, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. Trelyon, from Vancouver, Union Bay, and San Francisco, via Auckland, will proceed to Melbourne, Sydney, and Newcastle. She will return to the Pacific Coast during the latter part, of September to load at Vancouver and San Francisco early in November for New Zealand and Australian porta.
