GENERAL NEWS.

The last meeting of Linden Lodge, A.0.H., was presided over by A.D. Bro. Hariiciss. There was a fair-attendance. It was a special evening, being a hard-np night. After the business of the lodge had been transacted a bard's report and sick pay passed and other business, the lodge adjourned to carry out the evening’s programme as set apart for that night. A number of the brothers hud come in raga and tatters, and as then* was a prize, for (he best get-up the judges had a tusk before them, but eventually they decided that. Bro. llarneiss was worthy of that distinction, and their decision was very popular. (M-i.P. Bro, Sunderland and Ids colleagues, Bros. Siorer and Stewart, acted as judges. Evoryone present enjoyed the evening’s fun, and it is hoped that it will become au annual event for the boys on the Hill. There was a full attendance at the monthly meeting of the National Council of Women of New Zealand, when arrangements were made for the annual conference that is to take place in Dunedin on September U, 3, and 4. It is hoped that after this conference more organisations will link up with this branch of the N.C-W. Correspondence was received from the Prime Minister, and also from the Nursing Division of St. John Ambulance Association, Disappointment was.expressed at the fate of the "Justices of the Peace Amendment Bill,” and at the remarks by sojae members of the Legislative Council. The lion, treasurer made a statement, on the financial position of the council, and foreshadowed (he possible necessity for a levy to meet the expenses of the conference. Hospitality for two visiting delegates is still to bn arranged.
