SEEING THE WORLD.

ITALY’S HEIR APPARENT. VISIT TO SOUTH AMERICA. The annual cruise of the cadets of the Roval Naval Academy at Leghorn takes them this summer to South American waters, and, they are being aocompaniod by the Prince of Piedmont, heirapparent to the throne of Italy. Two warships from the expedition, the San Giogio and the San Marco, under the command of the Prince’s Governor, Admiral Bonaldi. Prince Umberto and the cadets are not new to one another; they shared a cruise two years ago, in the North Seas, when the King’s son made himself ex tremely popular with his companions. Tli is year the voyage has a special significance. Its object is to make the Prince acquainted with the large Italian colonies in Brazil and Argentina, which are intensely patriotic, as they showed during the %var. A 10 davs’ halt will be made at Rio de Janiero, Buenos Ayres, and Montevideo, and the Prince- will land and make expeditions into the interior to visit the chief Italian settlements. Hia arrival is eagerly awaited, and he is sure of an enthusiastic reception. Nothing could be better calculated to bind the rising generation of Italian emigrants to the mother-country than the sight of the handsome young Prince, who celebrates his 20th birthday next September, and who, though still somewhat shy. has the royal gift of saying and doing the right thing. Active and athletic, his love of horses and of sport—he never loses the opportunity of seeing a good boxing match—are just the qualities that will appeal to his father’s subjects in the new world. One hundred and fifty cadets are divided between the two ships. The Prince of Piedmont has taken up his quarters on tne San Giorgio, where there is plenty of room for official receptions and deputations. The cruise is expected to last until the end of October. j
