WINGATUI NOTES. By Sentinel. Dull and atmospheric conditions carrying a threat of rain did not appear too pr°mising at Wingatui yesterday morning, hut matters in that direction improved a« noon approached. All the fast work took place on the inside grass track. Bachelor Gay reeled half a mile in 51 2-ssec, but did not walk 100 well after bis task. Royot Wink, Bon Skirl, and King Sol broke off at* tho six furlong post, but the last-named was slow to move, and Bon Skirl appeared to suffer interference after going two furlongs, and dropped back. Royal Wink and King Sol finished together in Imin 19 4-ssec. All British reeled off half a mile in 51 2-ssec. Kei'b and Avispado did five furlongs in Imin 5 l-?sec, both going well. Gorgeous was beating Courtly Hose at the end of five furlongs in Imin 5 2-sscc. Tione, without being fully extended, strode over five furlonga in Imin Tscc. A FabriLoff mare schooled better than Fabriano. Cassells gave a satisfactory display over the schooling fences. The Secretary reported that the Southland secretary was endeavouring to arrange a match in Dunedin on Southland’s return from the New Zealand tournament, the match to bo played on Saturday, September 13. This would depend on the finals in the tournament.—lt was decided that the Southland secretary should wire arrangements later. It was also decided to leave the ground arrangements, etc., until definite word was received. The Caledonian Ground had been secured for tho match, South Otago v. Otago, on Saturday next. It was decided to commence this match at 2.30, as the team wished to return by the 5.10 train. Mr P. Shacklock’s offer to entertain the visitors to afternoon tea was accepted with thanks. Regarding the B Grade final, it was decided 0 to play Triangle (winner of first section) v. Momona (winner of second section) at 1.15 on the Caledonian Ground, prior to the representative match.
