THE NEXT PARLIAMENT.

SOME PROBABLE RETIREMENTS. (From Odr Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, August 26. Rumour has it that on the conclusion of the present Parliament a small number of tile present members intend lo refrain from standing again ns candidates for seats in the [louse of Representatives. Among those who have been mentioned as unlikely to stand again are the Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, who represents Ellesmere and has been in the House a considerable time; Mr W. H. Field (Otaki). who also has a long record; Mr L. M. Isitfc (Christchurch North), for many years a parliamentarian; and the Hon. D. 11. Guthrie, whose health does not permit ot his continuance as a representative of the people. There seems to be little doubt that both Mr Guthrie and Mr Tsilt will carry out their intentions to retire, but it may lie that their services will bo availed of in some other respect. It was gathered at Levin on Monday that Mr Field might yet be seen out again, so there seems to he sonic possibility of his entering the contest once mora There it also said to be considerable doubt now about Sir Heaton Rhodes carrying out, his intention not to enter the field again. Much depends on lus health, which is improving, and there is every chance of his contesting the election of 1925.
