OUTBREAK IN PICTURE THEATRE. PROGRAMME OF FILMS DESTROYED Pkr United Press Association.) GORE, August 25. Fire broke out in the operating box of the Princess Theatre on Saturday night, and tho programme of films was destroyer!, and minor damage was done to the machine and building. Nobody was injured, tho audience filing out without panic. Tho brigade quickly suppressed the outbreak. FIRE IN COAL BUNKERS. EXCITING SCENE ON STEAMER RIO CLARA. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 2,i. An exciting scene was witnessed aboard the Rio Claro when smoke was seen issuing from the coal bunkers. The alarm was given, and the. fire brigade was soon in attendance when it Was found that tho coal was only smouldering. It was a laborious task getting to the seat of the. trouble. The ship’s company had an anxious time as the vessel hud a full cargo of inflammable oils. The consequences would have been serious if the heated coal had burst into flames. The brigade is still at work on the vessel. JEWISH SYNAGOGUE GUTTED. (Per United Press Association./ HOKITIKA. August 25. A fire occurred ca.rly this morning in the Jewish Synagogue, and the building was practically gutted. Tho origin is a mvstery. Tho parchment scrolls and records were saved.
