MESSAGE FROM LOST STEAMER. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, August 25. A bottle containing a message supposed to have come from the lost steamer Sumatra was found in the Clarence River. The message stated that the vessel foundered in a terrific gale off Port Macquarie on June 28, 1923. It was signed “Captain Bell and Chief Officer Fewtrell.” The Sumatra, a steel screw steamer of 950 tons, was lost on the northern coast of New South Wales late in June or early in July of last year. Bodies picked up on the coast were' identified, and wreckage was also picked up which was shown to have belonged to the Sumatra.
