EAST COAST RAILWAY.

SPEEDY CONSTRUCTION URGED. <Peh United Punas Association.) , WAIROA, August 22. A large gathering of representatives from every part of the town and country met. this afternoon to urge tho Government to speed up the East Coast railway construction. The speakers stressed the need for a combined effort to impress on the Minister of Public Works that this railway was now the most important in the dominion, and not only the East Coast but the whole of the Norht Island would benefit by its speedy completion. A splendid district was only partially developed owing to the lack of railway facilities which at present were enjoyed by more fortunate districts. The meeting waa emphatic concerning the need for a . united front, and the following motion was unanimously carried: “That this representative gathering forcibly bring before tho Minister the necessity of prosecuting the East Coast railway more speedily, and that a big deputation he sent to Wellington to interview the Minister.’’

Delegates were appointed to meet the Minister ns soon as possible after August 27. Gisborne and Napier local bodies will be ashed to co-operate.
