MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE.
SUGGESTED REMITS FROM DUNEDIN. At the meeting of the City Council on Wednesday night the Finance Committee will propose that the under-mentioned remits bo sent to tho next Municipal Conference to be held in Auckland during October: 1. That the Government bo urged to amend the Local Bodies Loans Act in the direction of: —(a) State-guaranteed Loans.— Affording greater assistance to local authorities by devising a scheme for pooling applications for loan money and raising the sums required on the London or other market by way of a State-guaranteed loan. (b) Compulsory Sinking Funds.—Providing tor a compulsory sinking fund for such Joans, such sinking fund to be calculated to extinguish the total loan at or about a period based on tho estimated “life” of tho plant, material, or works upon which the particular loan money was expended. (c) That the foregoing provisions bo in addition to and not in substitution for anv of tho statutory provisions at present available to local authorities. 2. That, the Government bo asked to amend tho Rating Act, providing (hat local bodies may be permitted to grant a rebate of the whole or any portion of the rates payable on promises owned and occupied by Returned Soldiers’ Associations as club premises.
