ROYAL GARDEN PARTIES.

BUCKINGHAM PALACE AND ST. JAMES’S PALACE. NEW ZEALAND GUESTS. For their second garden party of the season, the King and Queen especially chose a Saturday afternoon a.s being the best, day upon which professional men and the many workers in other spheres who formed such a large proportion of those present, could spare the time for this pleasant relaxation. The lovely gardens were looking their best, and their spaciousness gives so much room for movement. However many are the guests invited there seems always room for as many more.

Shortly after four o’clock, the Royal Party entered the grounds. The Queen cf Spain walked with the King and Queen, then followed Princess Beatrice with her granddaughters, the Infantas Beatrix and Christina (daughters of the Queen of Spain), and next came King Manoel and Queen Augusta Victoria. Awaiting their Majesties under the trees facing the Garden Entrance were Princess Helena Victoria, Princess Andrew of Greece, and her two younger daughters. Lady Patricia Ramsay, the Infanta Beatrice of Spain, Lady Maud Carnegie, Lord Carnegie, the Duchess of Devonshire, Countess Fortescue, the Grand Duke Michael of Russia, and Countess Torby. The Queen looked regal in a draped dross of turquoise-blue georgette trimmed with many rows of short fringe of a slightly deeper shade, and crystal ornaments at the foot of the skirt and the edges of the sleeves. Her toque was of swathed blue and mauve tulle with an upstanding mount of tiny ostrich feathers of the same shades. 'Wio Queen of Spain looked beautiful in a fringed dress and cloak of pearl grey charrnettse, and a swathed turban of pewter and silver tissue, with clusters of grey marabout plumes drooping down the left shoulder.

After a number of presentations had been made of distinguished visitors from the dominions, the King and Queen moved to where the general company were awaiting them, at which point they separated, tho King taking tho path to the right and the Queen to the left. Their Majesties made frequent pauses to greet personal friends, or to allow presentations to be made to them. The .Archbishop of Canterbury, the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster, and Mr A. Henderson. M.R (Home Secretary), were among the first to be greeted by tho King in' the course of his progress. After tea. which was served in marquees in the gardens, a number of further presentations were made, (ho King and Queen standing beneath a royal canopy. bands were playing throughout the afternoon, and the time went all too quickly. One of the guests who attracted much attention was Admiral the Hon. Sir E. Freemantle (the “Father” of the Fleet), and another was Mrs Drew, the daughter of Mr Gladstone, who held quite a little court round her bath-chair.
