DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. Business opened quietly on the Dunedin Stock Exchange this week, but the market became rather lively on Tuesday, and there was also a fair number of transactions on Thursday and yesterday. HuddartParkers have moved around a good deal, and banking lines also have changed hands on two or three occasions. Prices for banks are, on the whole, firm, and Nationals indeed have shown some decided improvement, shares being sought yesterday at £6 13s Od, with sellers asking only a shilling more. A sale in this stock was reported yesterday at £0 13s Od, and a parcel of New Zealands was also turned over on ’Change at 575. Insurances are firm, though htere has been a very slight fluctuation in prices, and two gams were recorded during the week, one of New Zealands at 29s 3d and another of Standards at 43s 6d. Howard Smiths (shipping) weakened slightly during the week, but the price rose yesterday to 33s Od, witli buyers offering 0d less. HuddartParkers arc substantial, while the latest offer for P. and O. Deferred stock is £287, the highest offer this week being £2BB. The celling quotation stands at £3OO. Now Zealaud Breweries have not advanced, and other lines are quiet, though the offer for Ward’s has improved. Crowns have not been quoted this week. Taupiri Coals have risen in price to 19s, but so far buyers hare not shown any interest. Westports are available at 38s Od, and there has been a slight depreciation in both issues of Westport-Btocktous. Not much movement has taken place in Loan and Agency lines, and prices are mostly fairly steady. Meat Preserving shares also are dull, and prices have not altered to any noticeable extent. The margin between the quotations for Dominion Rubbers has now decreased to a shilling, buyers yesterday offering I7s Od. A sale was effected yesterday In the ordinary issue of Kaiapoi Woollens (ord.) at 17s 3d, and the market closed with buyers offering 375, sixpence less than the selling quotation. The preference issue has also improved, the offer now being 19s 6d. Kauri Timbers are wanted at 295, and Milburn Limes and Mosgiel Woollens are in demand at SGs 9d and £6 18s Od respectively. Both issues of Now Zealand Expresses advanced a little In offer during the week, but so far there has not been an offer to sell. The ordinary issue of New Zealand Hardwares has, on the other hand, fallen off by a small amount. Otago Daily Times shares are still wanted at GGs, but holders have seen no reason to quote at all. Buyers were offering 29s for Wnihis yesterday, and sellers wore willing to part at 20s Od, but no business was done. Other mining stock is fairly sound. AINGE SHIELD MATCH. University and Pirates will meet to-day to play for the Ainge Shield, and this is expected to jirovide one of the closest games seen at Carisbrook this season. Doth teams play fast, open football. As a curtain-raiser to the match the President’s Grade match. High School E. v. Southern, will be played, and an interesting game Should be witnessed between these two teams, as they are two of the leading teams in this competition. The whole of the proceeds of this match will be devoted to charity, and it is anticipated that there will be a large attendance. The box plan Is now open at the Bristol, and ground tickets car be obtained at the Otago Sports Depot and S. Jacobs's. Ground membofS are requested to refrain from using their members’ tickets on this occasion. There will be absolutely no free list for this match, excepting for disabled soldiers.
