The Flora, which arrived here yesterday morning from Gisborne, via Lyttelton, sailed last night for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Napier, and Gisborne. The Breeze, which arrived here last night ’from Lyttelton, is to sail to-day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The Kittawa, which arrived hero yesterday morning from Port Craig, is to sail tomorrow for Timaru, Greymouth, and Westport. The Kauri, with a hardwood cargo from Port Stephens, via Bluff, is duo hero on Friday to continue unloading. She is to complete discharge at Timaru and Wellington. The Navua, from Auckland, via Wellington, and Lvttelton, is due here to-morrow, and is to sail" on Friday for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. The Kaitangata, from Lyttelton, is due bore to-morrow, and ia to sail about Saturday for Greymouth. , , , , The Wanaka is to leave Auckland on Saturday with, cargo for Wellington. The Progress, from Wellington, which is due here on Friday, is to sail on Friday night for Lyttelton, Wellington, and New Plymouth. r The Calm, from Bluff, is due hero on Saturday to load for Wanganui, via ports. OLD SHIPS TO BE DISMANTLED. The eteamer City of Augusta and Nacoochce of the Ocean Steamship Company have been purchased by the Dravo Contracting Company of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The vessels will bo dismantled at Philadelphia. The City of Augusta was built in 1880, and the Nacoochee in 1882. Both have been in nearly continuous service since those dates, calling between Savannah and the North Atlantic. ■ PERSONAL ITEMS. ■ b Captain J. Flynn has been appointed master of the Waikawa, relieving Captain A. H. Davey for transfer. Mr H. Bucg has joined the Union Company’s service, and has been appointed fourth officer of the Manuka, rice Mr C. T. Robb, who has gone ashore at Wellington for .instructions. Mr L. Sinclair has joined the Connna as third officer, relieving Mr D. J. R. M’Kenzie. The many friends of Mr L. S. Dawson, late chief engineer of the Mararoa, will be pleased to learn that ho has been appointed to the position of Inspector of Machinery under the New Zealand Government. THE SUFFOLK. The Suffolk, with West of England cargo, berthed at Port Chalmers yesterday afternoon. This morning she will commence discharging cargo, and will come up to Dunedin at midday. The passage outward, via Panama, was uneventful. A two-hour stay was made at Pitcairn Island. Bad weather was experienced on approaching’the New Zealand coast. MAIMOA CLEARED BALBOA. The "Shaw, Savill. and Albion Line steamer Maimoa cleared Balboa on August 3, en ■route from Liverpool to Auckland. The Vessel is due at Auckland about August 23. The Maimoa sailed from Liverpool on July 19, with cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. THE CANADIAN IMPORTER. The Canadian Government Merchant Marine advises that the Canadian Importer, instead of the Canadian Scottish, will leave Vancouver during the fourth week ot August with general cargo for discharge at Auckland and Australian ports. THE TAIROA. fhe Shaw, Savill, and Albion Line steamer iroa, which has been delayed in loading jration# in the Wanganui roadstead owing a heavy southerly gale, will continue cine in cargo at Gisborne. Due at Weltrtoii on Thursday next, she is to sail on fust 26 for London, via Teneriffo.

THE WAIMANA. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Lino steamer Waimana is to leave Wellington on Saturday for Gisborne and Auckland. Due at Auckland about August 22, she is to sail five days later for London, via Tencriffe. FAMOUS SHIP TO BE SCRAPPED. The General Metals Supply Company, of Oakland, has purchased the famous old cable ship Burnside, and she is to be taken to Oakland, where she will bo scrapped. The Burnside was captured by the Atlantic battleship fleet during the war with Spain. RUAHINE’S ITINERARY. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Kuahine, from London and Southampton, via Panama, is to leave Wellington on Friday for Lyttelton and Port Chalmers, where she will complete unloading, WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE. The following vessels wore expected to bo within range of the undermentioned wireless stations last night:—Auckland: Makura, Sierra, Port Hunter, Karori, Niagara, Nerbudda, Tekoa, Sonoma, Tofua, H.M.S. Dunedin, Keeking, Tremere, Belfast Maru, Ngakuta, Largo Law’, Arahura, Waiotapu, Rama, Orient City, and Waipori. Chatham Islands: Port Hunter and Ruapehu. Wellington; Maori, Mararoa, Ruapehu, Mericos H. Whittier, Corinthic, Waimarino, Tutanekai, Kaiwarra, Wanaka, Waikouaiti, Kairaanawa, Tairoa, Kaituna, Port Curtis, and Moeraki. MERICUS H. WHITTIER. The American oil-tanker Mericus H. Whittier arrived at Wellington on Friday from San Luis Vobispo, California, with a full cargo of fuel oil for the Union Steam Ship Company. The vessel berthed at the Miramar wharf at 11.20 a.m. to pump out her oil cargo. The Mericus H. Whittier sailed from San Luis Vobispo on July 11 with a cargo of petroleum oil equal to 66,144 barrels. Very fine weather prevailed until last Wednesday evening when off the East Coast a heavy south-westerly gale was encountered, with fierce rain squalls and high seas. The ship was compelled to stand oft the land, hut eventually came up to the heads early on Friday morning, and was brought in to the stream. Captain J. Swanson is in command of the vessel, and his officers arc; —Chief, Mr I. K. Olsen; second, Mr A. Davis; third, Mr W. Grady; chief engineer, Mr Frank D. Gatter; first, Mr John I. Clark; second, Mr B. F. Crawford; third, Mr Glenn H. Stewart. The Mericus H. Whittier was formerly the Hulaco, and is an up-to-date oil tanker of 6972 tons gross. She was built in 1919 bv the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation (Ltd.). Her engines are right aft, where her engineers and crew are accommodated. Tho captain and officers’ rooms arc on a large forward house under the bridge. Throughout the voyage the vessel received wireless news each evening from Pacific Coast stations. Tho ship’s operator published tho budget so that all hands were kept acquainted with the news of the day. Wireless concerts were heard till the ship was a thousand miles away from tho American coast.
