AGRICULTURAL MATTERS.

EDUCATING 'IE BOYS. The Otago A. and P. Society has received a suggestion which should be tho means of many boys taking a more direct interest in tne society’s operations and in agricultural matters generally. The suggestion is that the head masters of the various city and country schools, including public and private, should bo asked specially to select trom the Sixth Standard not more than 10 boys who are taking subjects pertaining to agriculture to visit the snow at Tahuna Park. These boys, on arrival at tiie grounds, will bo taken charge of by representatives appointed by tho ' society, who will show them round tho stock and explain the different sections. The inspection will last about two hours, from 10 a.m. to 12, after which the boys will bo entirely free, with 'the exception thatj>: during the parade of stock, they wi'l be given an opportunity of seeing the parade. All boys selected must write an essay during school hours, not exceeding 200 words, mainly, but not exclusively, on tho following points; 1; Comment on what they were shown at tho show 7 . ■ 2 State the advantages of breeders exhibiting their stock at different shows. 3. The importance to this dominion of promoting our primary products and in improving our stock. 4. Any other matters that may appeal to the boy when writing his essays. No charge will be made for admission to the show, and tho society will award three prizes—First, £l 10s; second, 15s; ’third, 7s 6d; for the three best essays, to be judged by a competent person appointed by the society.
