THE SHARE MARKET

DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. Business on the Dunedin Stock Exchange has been fairly brisk this week, and quite a number of transactions have taken place, particularly in Bank of Now Zealands, which have moved about extensively. Other bank ing lines have changed hands a good dea-, too and a certain amount of business has been done in War Bonds. There has been a noticeable improvement tn Bank of Aus tra’-asi-aa New Zealands, and Unions, and other similar lines are fairly firm. National Insurances cased off 'slightly towards the end of the week, but little alteration has taken place in other insurance stock. Burns, Philps are wanted at 345, but tho latest selling quotation is 30s, leaving a margin of 2s, which makes business unlikely under present circumstances. Both issues of Huddart, Parkers are firm, and P. and O.’e are weak, while tho offer of 20s 4d for Union Steams has not varied. Taupiri Coals are wanted at 18s, and the offer for Woatports is in the vicinity of 375. The ordinary issue of Westport-Stocktons is available at 5s 3d, ■with buyers coffering 2d lees, while the quotations for the preference issue arc tho same. Loan and Mercantiles (ord.) aro on offer at £92 —a slight decrease —and other load* and agency shares aro practically unaltered. Meat preserving lines are quiet. British Tobaccos were procurable during tho week at 435, with buyers offering 6d leas. Brown, Ewings (ordinary), have improved a tittle, and Dominion Rubbers aro also stronger than they were earlier* in the week. There is still a fairly wide margin between the buying and selling quotations, however. The ordinary issue of Kaiapoi Woollens, have advanced to a slight degree, and the other issues are firm. The offer for Milburn Limes and M’Lood Bros.’ Soaps increased slightly during the week, but there was no responding quotation for either. A shilling margin still prevents business in National EJectnos, which arc on offer at 19s Gd. New Zealand Drugs, Brewery shares, and both issues of New Zealand Expresses are steady, while Otago Daily Times shares arc still in demand at 665. The priori of Smith and Smith shares has decreased to 18s Gd, while tho offer for Waid's has advanced* to 51s 6d without attracting a selling quotation. Wilson’s Cements have also advanced, and a sale was reported on Monday last at 295. Mining shares have been quiet, and Waihis have decreased a little. A decided improvement took place yesterday in the offer for War Bonds, nearly all tho 4j per cent, issues being sought at £97 17s 6d. There were no offers to part, however.
