Brookes has reconsidered his decision not to accept Patterson’s invitation to join the Australian Davis Cun team in America, and will sail for New York on July 20. He will not decide whe' part he will take until he consults the team. —A. and N.Z. Cable. AUSTRALIANS IN AMERICA. NEW YORK, July 5. At Glen Cove, Thalhcimer and White, for tho past two years intercollegiate doubles champions in America, won the final round of tho doubles, defeating O’Hara Wood and Kahns in straight sets, B—6, 6—3, 12—10. The Australians, playing a strong and confident game, fought unavaiiingly against the college pair, who have been team mates for several years, and have developed remarkable strategic unity ot . play, which considerably taxed their opponents’ resources. 'he Australians' several times had victory in their grasp only to lose' it through minor lapses. Wood was highly effective in close slashing play, returning his rivals lobs with deadly accuracy from the nets position. Kalms revealed a service so deceptively powerful as to win the sole love game. At Indianapolis Johnny Hennessy defeated Gerald Patterson in the semi-final of tho Western Tennis Championships, 4—5, 6—2, 6—l, 6—3. Tildon defeated Chaplin in the other semi-finals. —A. and N.Z. Cable. SUCCESSFUL IN DOUBLES. NEW YORK. July 6(Received July 7, at 8.5 p.m.) At Indianapolis, in the semi-final of the singles, Chaplin defeated Schlesinger, 6 — l, 4 — 6, 6—3, 6 — 2. In tho semi-final of the doubles Patterson and Scidesinger defeated Tilden and Weiner, 6—4, B—6, 3—6, 6—3. In the final Patterson and Schlesinger defeated HennesSy and Chaplin,. 7—5, g 5 5 —4, thus winning the Western Doubles Championship. The ‘'ia,.ah was replete with action, and was hard-fought throughout. Schlesinger and Patterson have left Indianapolis for St. Louis, where they will participate in the National Clay Courts Championships, which begin on July 7- Wood and Kalms early in the week will leave Glen Cove for Chicago to participate in the Illinois State, Championshins on July 14. The entire team will return to Now York to compete in the Metropolitan Championships on July 22.—Reuter.
