Greenfield) occupied the chair, and moved the adoption ot tho committee’s rc-pont, which was as follows; The library has been liberally patronised during the year, although we are surprised that more of the residents do not become subscribers to what is piobably the cheapest circulating library in the city, not excepting tho Municipal Library. When the ccat of tram fares for 12 months is taken into
account tho sum spent must greatly exceed the modest sum charged per annum lo subscriber. During the year about 80 now hooks were added at a cost of £lO 4s 3d. Subscriptions from Cl members show a slight increase of £l, compared with lust year, but our incoino from rents shows a drop of £3 as (hi. Wc began the year with a credit balance of AD 5s ad, but with an outstanding liability of £4 Kta. We finish tho year with a credit balance of £3l 7s Gd and no liabilities, so that we are really £1 it’s Id to the good on the year’s transaction's. Tho building is in much need ol attention, and your committee is now considering a scheme winch would result in an improvement to the finances and enable, the work to be done. This is tho jubilee year of the institute, and the fact that its work has been carried on foe 30 years without a break is evidence that it has filled an important position in the literary life oi the community,—The report was adopted.
