OTAGO CHESS CLUB.

The monthly meeting of Iho committee of the Otago Chens Club wan hold lust evening, and was attended by Messrs O. Balk (president), .1. S. Lawson, T. it. Gilliee, D. Jt. Hastings, L. I). Grigp, S. S. Myers, G. J). Wright, and W. H. Allen. It was decided to send a lotto’’ of sympathy to the widow and family of the late Mr T. Johnstone, who for years wan one of the mainstays of the Otago Chess Club. It was resolved to send a letter of congratulation to Sir “William Sim upon the honour recently conferred upon him. Tho forthcoming visit of M. Boris Kostich, the famous Serbian chess master, to N«w Zealand was discussed at considerable length, Mr Keeling having notified that in all probability M. Kostich would be arriving in the dominion in about a fortnight’s'time.—lt was decided to notify the New’ Zealand Chess Association that the committee would guarantee ,£2b towards M Kosticii’s expense o . A sub-committee consisting of the president, secretary, and Mr D. H. Hastings was elected to cavny out the necessary arrangements lor M. K.oslich’s visit. After full discussion it was decided only to pla-v 12 boards in the forthcoming Otago v. Auckland match.
