COLUMN ON THIEFVAL SITE. Press Association -By Telegraph—Copyright PARIS, June 18. (Received June 19, at 5.5 p.m.) The newspaper Lc Journal suggests in connection with Thiopval that a column should bo erected on the site, inscribed “Here was born and here lived for several centuries the village of Thiepval, which died on the field of honour.’’ The authorities are considering the proposal.— A. and N.Z. Cable. _ A previous message stated : The authorities have decided that Thiepval is to remain as a, dead village, killed by the war. Its ruins will be Kept as a. memorial for all time. At first the scheme included lieauniont-Hamcl and Beaucourt, but now it has been arranged to restore them.
