JAPANESE AFFAIRS

FEELING AGAINST AMERICA A MORE MODERATE TONE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.; TOKIO, June 17. - The authorities and the leading news papers are giving evidence of an almost complete reversal in tone regarding anti Americanism. They • are apparently alarmed at the strength of the agitation, and are now vigorously endeavouring to stem the popular tide, which previously had been evoked. The police have ordered the arrest and stern punishment of anyone further agitating against America. General Ngaki, Minister of War, has prepared a plan to reduce the army from 20 to 14 divisions without reducing the numerical strength. This will mean a saving of 30,000,000 yen, which he proposes to transfer to the air and chemical services.—Sydney Sun Cable.
