BOXING.

NOVICE TOURNAMENT. • The novice tournament conducted by the Otago Boxing Association was concluded at the King's Theatre last night. Hr T. M. (Julies acted as master or ceremonies, Hi J. Kilmartin was releree, and Hessis P. Huston and Don Patterson judges. FEATHER-WEIGHTS. (Tlueo Three-minute Rounds.) E. R. Parker a. 13 beat W. H. Drew 9.2. borne vigorous rallies look ' piace in the second and third rounds. JJotli men relied mostly on right swings, but they used a good left now and again. There was not much margin of difference in points between the two lads. J. IN. Wilkio 8.8 beat J. Whitton 9,1. The two lads used both hands well, with Wilkie the more aggressive in the first two rounds. Wilkie also showed good lootwork and ringcraft. Wilkie went down lor two seconds from a right swing to the jaw at the commencement of the third round. Thi concluding stage was vigorously contested, with Wilkie doing most of the leading. The winner made his opponent miss a lot with clever back-moving. Semi-final. T. Walker 8.12 beat E. R. Parker 8.13. Walker showed a big improvement on hie boxing on the first night, and scored well with a straight left and then a solid rignt swing. Walker won the second round with some well-timed clean hitting, but Parker was fighting back when the gong went. Walker had the best of the third round, and connected several times with a straight left. Walker’s longer reach gave him an advantage. Final. J. N. Wilkie beat T. Walker. , This was a fairly even contest, but Wilkie proved the cleverer boxer, and did most o* the leading. WELTERS. Final. G. Edwards 10.7 beat W. Hears 10.8. Edwards had the better knowledge of boxing, and the greater variety of blows. In the’ third round some very solid blows were exchanged, but Edwards was always the chief aggressor, and scored with hard punches to the head and the body. Towards the end of the round Hears was knocked against the ropes and went down for the count. LIGHT-WEIGHTS. Final. P. Eggers 10.0 beat H. Harwood 10.0. This was a hard-fought contest from start to finish. Eggers scored with some beauti-fully-timed lefts and rights to the head in the first round. In the second round there was a lot of in-fighting, and again in the. third round. Towards the end of the contest Eggers scoi'ed with some solid lefthand punches to the head, which his game opponent did not appear to know how to dO ' ib ' o ’ SPECIAL BOUT: Paper-weights. j Richmond 4.12 beat J. Campbell 5.9. This provided an amusing contest, Campbell’s sweeping right and left swings, which generally missed, causing hearty laughter. SPECIAL BOUT. Bantam-weights. J. Leckie 8.0 beat J. H. Wilson 8.0. The New Zealand champion fly-weight started in his usual whirlwind style, and connected several times with a right cross to the head, and also with a straight right to the body. Wilson fought back “amely, but Leckie always had him under pressure. The quick-hitting Leckie scored well with lefts and rights to the head and body in the second round, and piled up a good margin of points. He was too quick for his plucky opponent. Leckie again out-boxed Wilson in the final round, connecting with all kinds of well-judged blows. Wilson was cheered for his game showing.
