FRENCH STEAMER ANTINOUS.

AN interesting history, FORMERLY GERMAN RAIDER. (Peb United Peess Association.) WELLINGTON, June 17. Probably the most interesting arrival in Wellington for some months past i s the ( T renon steamer Antinous, which drew ; alongside Queen’s wharf this morning from Dunkirk, via way ports. The interest in her lies in the fact that though she is now engaged in peaceful trading between Franco and New Zealand her mission in war-time was to harry vessels leaving this country for the scene of hostilities on the other side of the world. Not only did she sink many vessels by gunfire and internal explosion, but the mines she laid in the Pacific and Australian and New Zealand waters wrought havoc far and wide,' and ner name came to be feared throughout ! this portion of the Southern Hemisphere, tor the Antinous was formerly the Wolf, wmch one day was reported to be within i sight of Wellington. On her last trip to I Wellington information was discovered which made it quite certain that a change ot names had taken place and that the Antinous was really the Wolf under new colours, but structural alterations by Germans concealed the place where the four 4in guns ana two torpedo tubes were situated, ana when the vessel was handed over to franco unaer the reparations system there was no trace or clue to her former identity, but in the autographed log book of the raiuer s adventures found on board was the wnoie interesting story revealed.
