SOLD FOR RECORD SUM, PROCEEDS TO AID CHARITY. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, June 15. (Received June 17, at 5.5 p.m.) Pearls which were formerly owned by Madame Thiers, widow of the famous statesman, have been sold by miction for the record sum of £142,000. The pearls were presented to the Louvre by Madamo Thiers’s sister in 1881, but as their artistic value as an exhibit was considered tp have expired Parliament agreed to the sale, the proceeds will bo applied in aid of charities.—A. and N.Z.
