The Fourth International Congress on Refrigeration, and the lirst since the war, lias opened in London under the presidency of Mr Sidney Vvebb, President of the Board of Trade. Thirty nations are represented, in addition to delegates from Britain and the dominions. Speeches were made emphasising the importance of refrigeration and of developing a freer interchange between communities. Mr Webb, in welcoming the delegates, Slid that as Britain was compelled to import half her foodstuffs, she depended for her existence on the best possible methods of transporting foodstuffs, especially meat. He thought that the refrigerating process should Ire so developed that fruit and vegetables would ripen at sea and arrive in better condition than when they were shipped. Mr Russell Sinclair (Sydney) representing the commonwealth, said that as Australia had led tho way in tho export of frozen meat over lour distances and still shipped farther than any other country refrigeration was a matter of great importance to Australia-. The people of the commonwealth looked to Britain and tho United States to advise them regarding tho host methods of developing refrigerating processes, and the result of tho conference would be awaited with the greatest interest in Australia.
