Sir, —During a discussion at tho meeting of the 'i'uapeka County Council on Saturday morning last it was decided to ask, through your paper, for information on this point: May a councillor lawfully retain office and at the same time receive money, directly or indirectly, from the county for work done by his team, while the owner of a team which has done the maintenance work for over 20 years (to the satisfaction of Mr J. Edie during his period as engineer for the county) is prepared to carry out any work a 3 in the past and has applied for work to the council, his team having been idle for some time.— I am, etc.. Interested Ratepayer. [A person is disqualified from acting as a county councillor if he is concerned or participates (other than as a member of an incorporated company or of an association or partnership consisting of more than 20 persons) in any contract or work done lor the council, if tho payment for such contract or wwlc exceeds £5 for any one contract, or work or £lO altogether in any year for more than one contract or work Ed.
