OCTAGON THEATRE. Picture-goers at present have a great attraction in “ Pongola,” which is now showing at the Octagon Theatre, and large attendances are present each screening. The story describes the adventures of a rich and beautiful English noblewoman who disguises herself as a man and, leaving tho gay life and beauty of the Paris salons, travels to South Africa, where she lives among conditions which are altogether different from those to which she has been accustomed. Anna O. Nilslon is tho heroine, and James Kirkwood, who plays the part of Lundi Druro, the ponjoladrinking Englishman, gives a clever interpretation of his part. There is also a good supporting cast. The programme will bo repeated this evening. NEWLANDS RECITAL. A varied scries of selections of the works of British writers —so varied as to tax tho capability of the most accomplished elocutionist —is to be presented by Mr J. C. Newlands at his first recital in Burns Hall on Tuesday evening. June 24. The speaker is a professor in the New College, Edinburgh, and is an engaging lecturer, with a keen sense of humour.
