At a meeting of the Tongariro National Park Board during the week-end it was decided to draw up the plans and specifications for a hostel at a site known as tho Haunted Whare, about nine miles from Waimarino. PALMERSTON NORTH, June 16. \ At the Palmerston North Police' Court,Mabel Maud Thornburn pleaded guilty to using her premises as a common gaminghouse. The last of tho engineering trade disputes, that of the metal-workers, cited under tho dominion proposals of the Ironmasters’ Federation, came before the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr Newton). In each of the other disputes in the trade the parties did not gel past the hours clause, and all were referred to tho Arbitration Court. To-day the dispute was referred to the court for interpretation on legal points. Sir John Luke, M.P., reported at a meeting of the Winter Show Committee to-mght that tho Cabinet had refused to grant a racing permit in connection with the show, the Attorney-general having ruled that the proposed exchange of a Hunt Club permit for a racing permit was illegal. The Wellington Racing Club had promised the committee a donation of £SOO if a permit were granted, so that the committee would lose that sum. The secretary reported that the 8000 square feet -of floor space had almost all been taken up, the Hutt valley section accounting for 1363 square teet. There was eyery prospect of the show being a great success.’ _ b GISBORNE, June 16. The Gisborne Harbour Board to-day accepted the offer of a loan from London of £250,000, being the first instalment of a lean of £750,000 authorised two years ago by the ratepayers. ,
