MANCHESTER UNITY.

A special visit was made by the District Executive of the M.U.1.0.0.F., headed by Prov. G.M. B. H. Roaevear, together with several others, to Kaitaugata on Saturday. The occasion was that of a competition among the members of the lodges of tlie Kaitungata and surrounding districts in the rendering of the initiation ceremony. There was an attendance of 150 members, 50 of this number being ladies. Prov. Treasurer Bro. A. Sligo acted as judge, assisted by Prov. Cor. Soc. Bro. J. A. Hopcraft. Teams wcie entered by the Milton, Loyal Alexandra. Dalton, Queen of Otago, and Pride of Knitangala Lodges. Much interest was added by the appearance of a team of ladies for the first time in competition with male members. The result justified expectations, the Queen of Otago team winning by a small margin. The Milton Lodge, which gave a fine rendering, their G.M. being adjudsed the best of Hie evening, was second. Tim work of the whole of the teams was of a, high order, and earned the hearty commendation of the judge. Prov. Treasurer Sligo made the award, and gave some sound advice to the participants. It is the intention of the winners to challenge the holders of the district initiation banner for its possession. After the business a social gathering was held. Community singing, longs, recitations, and dancing being indulged in till midnight. The gathering was one of the most enjoyable held in Hie district for some time. Prior to the competition a lady member was initiated into the order by a team chosen from the District Executive.
