EX-NAVAL OFFICER’S WIFE

ORDER FOR MAINTENANCE. LONDON, June 1. Charles Henry Rolleston, a retired lieutenant-commander, living at Tottenham Court, Darlinghurst, Sydney, who is associated with a firm of oyster cultivators, was ordered to pay £3 a week towards the support of his wife and two children. Mrs Rolleston, who lives at Portsmouth, stated in evidence that she was married in 1912. She lived happily till after the war, when differences arose. Rolleston complained because his wife did not accompany him to London to enjoy its gaieties, but she explained that she had to attend to her children. Rolleston was appointed to the Renown, in which ho visited Canada. After this their differences were made up, and Rolleston went to Australia in the Renown in 1920. Except for two letters, said his wife, he had not communicated with her. She heard by accident that ho had retired from the Navy, and was receiving a gratuity of £2OOO. She appealed to her father-in-law, with the result that Rolleston in 1920-21 sent her £4OO. Mrs Rolleston in 1921 received a legacy of £4OO from her father-in-law, since when she had been dependent on her father, a former army officer.
