BOLT FROM BLUE
AIR BOMB DISASTER. CAPETOWN, May 29. The real cause of the aeroplane bomb disaster during a military review at Kurumati, 150 miles from Kimberley, which resulted in four people being killed and 32 wounded, is a mystery. Two bombing ’planes left Pretoria on Tuesday to give a demonstration for the Dutch Rifle Club at Kuruman, but noth were compelled to descend, and tho undercarriage of Lieutenant Joubert’s machine was damaged. When tho ’planes reached Kuruman the whole countryside had assembled. Lieutenant Joubert’s machine rose, and had circled the ground twice, when an object was seen to leave the ’plane. Streaking earthwards it grew in size, and the spectators began to run too late. The bomb, which was charged with a high explosive, fell on a rise and blew a great cavity in the ground. Two men and two women were killed instantly. Seven belonging to one family were among the 32 wounded. The damaged undercarriage may have been the cause of the bomb being accidentally released.
