PRISONERS SENTENCED. (Per United Press Association.) HAMILTON, June 12. In the Supreme Court Donald Du Gay, an elderly man, pleaded guilty to five charges of indecent acts with boys, and was sentenced_ to 10' years’ hard labour. His Honor said the prisoner had forfeited the right to live in decent society. William Shaw, formerly an official of the Labour Union, pleaded guilty to five charges of theft of moneys (approximately £100) belonging to the union. He received a sentence of reformative treatment for two years. His Ifonor said that when a man was put in a position of trust by his fellow men he should endeavour to justify that trust. WELLINGTON, June 12. At the Supreme Court William Norman Bryce, false pretences and attempted false pretences, was sentenced to six months, to be served concurrently with the three months he is at present serving; John Alexander Follies, theft of moneys, one year; Albert Geoffrey Maddock, theft as servant, (wo years; Albert Saunders, theft of moneys, two years; George Smith, an habitual criminal, for theft and escaping from legal custody, was sentenced to’ two years and to one year’s imprisonment, these sentences to be concurrent, and he was again declared an habitual criminal; William Thomas, for theft, received two years’ imprisonment. THEFT OF WHISKY. THE JURY DISAGREES. NEW TRIAL ORDERED. (Per United Pjie.ss Association.) NAPIER, June 12. At the Supreme Court to-day Chas Bernard Miller, Frederick M'Kinley, John Rattray Dunlop, and Arthur Swain appeared on a chajjge of entering the Harbour Board shed and stealing a cask of whisky valued at £lls, A charge of receiving was also preferred. After four and a-half hours the jury disagreed. With the exception of Miller the accused all made written statements admitting certain connections with the affair, but the statements did not agree and contained no admissions as to participating in the actual theft. The whisky was taken to Meanoc and buried there, and three of the accused admitting taking-part in these operations. A new dial was ordered for next session.
