At a meeting of Watchmakers and Jewellers of Dunedin, belt! at Osgood’s Empire Hotel on Friday evening last, consisting of Messrs Hyman, Myers, Nathan, Hogg, Beaver, and Roung, to discuss the advisability of introducing the early closing movement in connection with the above trades, J. Hyman was voted as chairman. It was moved by Mr Nathan, and seconded byMr Hogg, that during the winter months the hour of closing shall oe 7 p.m., Saturdays excepted, which was carried unanimously. ... George street, at the present rate of progress, will in a few days become a perfect canal; and as for the footpaths on each side, they are simply delusions and snares; the kerb stones suggest the idea of a sound foot track, but the pedestrian is speedily undeceived when he attempts locomotion. . . .
