For the past 20 years not one pauper' has beer, admitted from the parish of 1-V.ke-stone. next Sandgate, to the institution of the Eltham Board of Guardians. Ratepayers arc inquiring whether some allowance ought not to be made to them, the poor rate having been levied as usual. The army and navy are co-operating with the civilian population of Hawaii to encourage inter-island air service. The Government of Ontario ba-s purchased for over ,£IOOO and dispatched to the British Empire Exhibition what is believed to' bo the most valuable single piece of silver ore ever taken from a mine in the British Empire. It is 3ft long. 3ft high, and 2ft wide and -contains 24,1110 zof silver. It was obtained from the Kecley mine, in Northern Osi-arla.
