N.Z. AND SOUTH SEAS EXHIBITION.

MEETING OF DIRECTORS. A meeting of directors of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition was held last night and was well attended, the following being present:—Messrs J. Sutherland Ross (chairman), C. Speight, P. 1,. Halsted, Todd, P. Barr, A. Barnett, W. R. Hayward, H. F. Sincock, H. L. Tapley, and the secretary (Mr H. R. Spence). The High Commissioner’s office, London, cabled through the Department of Industries and. Commerce (Wellington), asking for certain information regarding cost of space, etc., and stating that the Executive Commissioners had met. —The Secretary reported that he had supplied the information sought.—The secretary’s action was approved. The Secretary urged that the opening hour of the Exhibition be 10 a.m. instead of 10.30.—After discussion it was resolved that the hour of opening be 10 a.m. It was resolved that the price of adult season ticket be two guineas each, and that season tickets for juniors under 16 years ct age lie one guinea each. It was also decided that the daily admission price be 6d for children under 16 years of age. The matter of appointing a paid canvasser was left in the hands of Messrs Barr and Sincock with power to act. It was decided that the general rules adopted hv the Awards Committee be approved. Tlie Locomotive Publishing Company asked for permission to sell hooks and other publications in the machinery hall of the Exhibition. —Referred to the Space Committee with the recommendation that the application be granted. A Lloyds broker in England wrote asking permission to tender I loyds insurance rates for the Exhibition Company’s own and their exhibitors’ requirements. The Horticn’*ire Committee reported that the plan of the Grand Court prepared bv the architect in accordance with the decision at last meeting had been placed on the table b- the r ’hnirmnn. who explained all the details of the “layout.” the flower beds being shown by dummies of suggested sizes and shapes to scale. After considerable discussion it was decided to reduce the size of some beds and to extend the “lavont” northwards between the ponds and itie concert hall, and this addition was also shown by dummies on the plan. It was decked to ask Mr Anseombe to send his draughtsman to mark o"t the beds, etc., on hL plan as it, stood on the tabffi and to eubmit a coloured plan for the directors. The Chairman reported having received a quotation tor trees, shrubs, etc,, from Messrs Lennie and Sons (Invercargill), but left the discussion of details over till next meeting. Adopted. The Works Committee reported that Mr Hayward explained the position of the railway siding, stating that the “traveller” was found to be impracticable unless placed at t-He end of the line, which in this case would not be done. Mr Benzoni had submitted a plan of the siding with a loop, and this bad been adopted after consultation with various members of too committee Mr Hayward also stated it was impossible to obtain a supply of sleepers from the Rail* way department. The Chairman reported that the directors had accepted tenders for six buildings as follows: —Fletcher and Love, Fletcher and Love (30ft extension of buildings 1 and 4), £1550; electric light (various), j81'92. The directors bad also the option over tenders for buildings 7 and 8 for one month. The architect’s letter with regard to the festival hall and the art gallery plans ‘was considered, as also the matter of “motor section” building. It was resolved that the architect prepare •the necessary plans for all these buildings, and when they are ready the Works Committee would meet and consider them. APPLICATIONS FROM ABROAD. By yesterday’s mail the secretary of the NetV Zealand and South Seas Exhibition Company received from all parts of the world—England, India, Australia, Singapore, Canada, and the United States of America sympathetic replies and applications from prospective exhibitors for definite information as to space arrangements. One of the largest foreign carrying concerns with 60 years’ experience behind it writes from London as follows; •We thank yon for your letter of the 6th March regarding the forthcoming Exhibition, and have road with great interest the book giving the Conditions and Regulations concerning the Exhibition, and if we may b© permitted to do so we should like to congratulate you upon the excellent way in which the Res"ulntions btg frumed find the full information given.” This commendation should prove very satisfactory to the Exhibition authorities who were responsible for issuing these regulations.
