The Speaker took the chair in the Prow vincinl Council yesterday afternoon at two o’clock. . . . The House went into committee on the motion of Mr Lloyd to consider (he propriety of changing the place of meeting. Mr Lloyd objected to the Supreme Court ns a place of meeting as no convenience for refreshments was possible. The Freemasons' Hall could not he obtained, nor could the Theatre Royal. The House Committee considered St. George’s Hall the most eligible, Mr Palmer having offered it at Ll 6 a week rent, the Council to provide gas and necessary fittings. Major Richardson moved that Mr Palmer’s offer be accepted. After a long discussion the House resumed, and the resolution of the committee was reported and adopted.
We have received the first number of the “Bruce Herald,” a newspaper designed to meet the requirements of the Tokomalriro, Clutha, Taieri, Waihola, Tuapeka, and Waitahuna. . . .
