Evidence was given that defendant bovine engaged to his wife •wueu she Was a seventeen-year-old actress. Later, ' when she expected to become a mother, the defendant, owing to his parent’s objections, refused to marry the girl. Mrs Davis then began an action against Coopman for the seduction of her daugnter, and the girl began an action for breach of promise. When the actions were nearing hearing- (which was a few months after the , child was bom), Coopman undertook to iparry the girl, and pay £220 for the ■■ Withdrawal of the law suite. /'The defendant said that immediately after the ceremony his wife refused to come and live at his parent’s home, and Had ref used. to do so ever since, though ho was not able to provide a separate hdme. iß© complained that his mother-in-law hiid taken his wife to an unknown address, and for this he made a counter-claim tor damages. -Mrs Davis, giving evidence, said she whs prepared to withdraw the action if tjie young folk were happy. i‘ Ooopman's counsel said that though his client only earned £5 a week, if the mother-in-law did not interfere Coopman would pay the £220 in instalments. Mrs Davis; Who will be the judge of my interference ? : Counsel suggested the Rabbi. |At this stage the hearing was adjourned. ■
