LUXOR TREASURES
THE LATEST DISCOVERIES. TWO EXQUISITE STATUETTES. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, December 10. The Daily Mail's Luxor correspondent says-: “Within the outer shrine an unexpected treasure was discovered. Two objects winch were believed to be- gold sticks wore found wrapped in gossamerlike linen. They proved to be a delightful golden statuette of the King in a youthful attitude on a golden pedestal, surmounting a stick of the same metal, and a corresponding silver statuette. Doth are of exquisite workmanship, and ar© perfectly preserved. “It is believed that the King’s chief officers bore them in the Royal processions. They may be regarded as prototypes of the gold and silver sticks in the British Court ceremonial. There is little doubt that they figured in the Royal regalia which Mr Howard Carter hopes Jo find within the shrine. The discovery affords hope that the remainder of the regalia will be discovered.” —A. and N.Z. Cable. •
