TAXI COLLIDES Y.'ITH CART, POLICE CONSTABLE KILLED^ (Peb United Pbess Association.) AUCKLAND, November 14. Constable Richard Todd, single, aged 28 years, stationed at Newton, was killed between - 5 and 5 o’clock this morning at Greenmeaclow’s Corner, at Epsom, as the result of a collision between a motor car and a Chinaman’s cart. The constable was in tlie taxi, the driver of which and Harry Harden (another occupant) were taken to the hospital. , The extent of their injuries is not yet known. The most seriously injured is Harry Horden, married, of Newtown, who sustained a fractured • thigh, forearm, and jaw, and shock. The taxi driver, James Andrew Fox, received concussion and abrasions to his shoulder. He was able to leave the hospital this afternoon. The fourth occupant, Reginald Dufaur, escaped injury. The Chinese driver of the cart escaped with an injured knee. The cart received no damage except a broken orojecting support, which apparently caught the motor’s ' mudguard. It is stated that; the car was proceeding at a great speed, and grazed the side of the cart, the top rail of which caught the car’s hood, dragging it backwards, smashing the windscreen to atoms, and forcing Constable Todd on to the road. Death must have been instantaneous. SERIOUS COLLISION. AUCKLAND, November 14. Arthur James Biopafield, a retired chemist* and his wife were" motoring from a side street into Jervois road, Ponsonby, when the motor got lammed between a tramcar and the centre pole of the wire circuit. The motor was crushed like a concertina, and the tram considerably damaged. Both. Blomfield and his wife were seriously injured. The injuries include broken ribs. Mrs Blomfield’s condition is serious.
