T he monthly meeting of the High School Committee was held at the schoolhouse ou Wednesday, when Mr G. Callaway occupied the chair in the absence of Mr Robert Ewing. Tho report: of the head-master for the month of October showed that the number of pupils on the roll was 540 and iho average attendance was 606. The resignation of Aliss Gowdy ns assistant teacher was accented with regret. The head master reported that the recent concert held in aid of the school sports fund realised the net sum of £26 18s Bd. The committee decided to grant the use of the school buildings and grounds in connection •with the forthcoming diamond jubilee celebrations of the school. The monthly meeting of the North-East ATilley School Committee was hold on Tuesday night, Air J. Elliott presiding. The resignations of two members of the school staff—Mr J. B. Grant (first assistant) and Aliss Eveline Black —were accepted with regret, and it was resolved that tho secretary write to these teachers expressing the committee’s appreciation of their services. Elliott, they had examined the school library and had decided that new books were badlv required, and had authorised Air .Jones to expend £lO on hooks for the fourth, fifth, and sixth standards Court Bride of the Leith, A.0.F.. held its fortnightly meeting on Wednesday evening, when there was a largo attendance. Appreciative references wore made regarding the recent visit of 43 members to Milton. and it was resolved to convey the same t« the brethren of Court Brace. Two new members were admitted, and three nominations were received. The toast, of the visitors was responded to by I’.C.U. Bro. W. Himincl on behalf of Court Enterprise. During the evening a competition was held for floor members only on (he rendering of the initiation charges. There were several entries. The judges were P.U.C.R.’s Bros. W. B. Anderson and W. R Burgh, who in announcing the results, said they had ilad a difficult ta.sk to find the winners, owing to the high standard displayed by all the entrants.
