SALVATION ARMY ENTERTAINMENT.

A DAY IN A MAORI PA. In the Salvation Army Citadel last night a very clever and enjoyable playlet, or potpourri, entitled “A Day in a Maori Pa," was given The stage was artistically set as the corner 0 f a pa, with in the forefront a Maroi house surrounded by bush and native shrubs, and in the background a range of mountains. The lighting effects were very good, and the scene depicting the rising of the moon was especially effective. In the first act the Army band, in Maori costumes, played special music, that might bo described as an epitome of the whole play. In other scenes the whole of the various activities of the Maori’s day were described. Haka, poi, and other dances were introduced, and several songs were tastefully given, the wahines and braves comporting themselves to suit the respective items. In the last scene a Salvation Army captain end lassie arrive at the pa, and they realistically conduct a meeting, when several favourite hymns and choruses are sung m the typical army manner. Much praise is due to Ensign Fraser, who arranged the entertainment, and who also took the principal part—that of the chief. Incidental music was supplied by a small but efficient orchestra.
