NEWCASTLE, October 10. —Arrived: Waimarino, from AVellington; AVaitemata, from Bluff. MELBOURNE, October 10.—Sailed: Moeraki (11 a.m.), for AA'ellington. The Breeze, which arrived here yesterday afternoon from AVanganui, via AVellington, is to sail to-day for AVanganui, via ports. The Ngakuta, from Auckland, via AA’ellington and Lyttelton, is now due here on Sunday, and is to sail on Monday for Bluff. She will load there for Oamaru, Timaru, and Auckland. The AA'ingatui, from Newcastle, via Lyttelton, is due here on Tuesday to load for Lyttelton, AVellington, and Auckland. The Union Company advises that a vessel will load hero about the end of next week for Greymouth and AVestport. The Union Company’s intercolonial cargo steamer AVaikonaiti is to leave Sydney to day for Bluff and Dunedin. The Kut-oa, with coal from Newcastle, is due at AA'ellington to-day. The Kamo is scheduled to leave Gisborne to-morrow for Bluff and Dunedin. She is to load here for Napier and Gisborne, via ports. THE WAIHEMO. The Union Company report that the Waibomo sailed from Port Angeles (British Columbia) on October 1 for Apia, Napier, AA'ellington, Lyttelton, and New Plymouth. THE REMUERA. En route from Southampton to New Zealand ports, the Remuera arrived at Colon on October 4. The vessel cleared Southampton on September 20. TRECAEREILL FROM LIVERPOOL. Thom Liverpool, via Auckland, the Federal Company’s liner Trecarrell, is to leave AVeliington to-day for Lyttelton, Dunedin, and thence Australian ports to complete discharge. WAIEUNA WITH COAL. Laden with a large shipment of coal from Newcastle, and a small quantity of general cargo from Melbourne, the Union Company’s steamer AA'airuna arrived at Auckland on Monday, and is to leave to-day for San Francisco, via Fanning Island. FIAKO NEXT WEEK. The New Zealand Shipping Company expect the Piako at Auckland about the end of next week to complete loading for Boston, New York, London, and West of England ports. She is scheduled to clear on the 21th inst., via Panama. THE MOERAKI. The Union Company’s intercolonial passenger steamer Moeraki, which left Melbourne at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, is due at AA'ellington on Monday. After calling at Lyttelton she is due here on October 18, and is to sail on that day for Bluff and Melbourne. THE JERSEY CITY. The Jersey City berthed at Auckland on Monday to discharge case oil and general cargo from New York, and was expected to sail at noon yesterday for Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Launceston, to continue discharge. During her voyage the steamer met with unsettled weather in the Pacific, and during tho last week she was steaming against strong head winds and seas, which considerably delayed her arrival. The rates of exchange on the cargo for Customs purposes are:—Canada 4.65 dollars, United States 4.55 dollars per pound sterling. OEOAVAITI AT WELLINGTON. The Union Company’s oil tanker Ororvaiti which is under charter to a, Homo company, arrived back at AVellington at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday from San Luis, Yobispo, California, with a full load of bulk oil fuel. The Orowaiti experienced a fine weather trip from the Californian porr. WAITOMO DELAYED. A DAMAGED PROPELLER. Tho departure of the AVaitomo from Port Chalmers for Newcastle yesterday afternoon had to be postponed, as in getting under way the. vessel severely damaged her propeller. A cargo of phosphates had been discharged, and tho steamer was flying light. As she was clearing tho wharf tho northerly gale tossed her about, and she became almost unmanageable. Her counter was suddenly swung against tho wharf and the revolving propeller came into violent contact with the heavy wood piling. The blades were stripped. Her departure was postponed, and the steamer ordered into dry dock for repairs. She will go into tho Otago dock this morning as soon as the Maori vacates it. LFVEKPOOL OCEAN FERRY. Busy transport scenes were witnessed by hundreds of people at the Liverpool landing stage on Saturday afternoon, August 25, when within five hours four ocean liners departed with 5890 passengers for various parts of the world. As one liner threw off her mooring ropes another was manoeuvring to take her place, whilst tenders were pressed into service to transport passengers to others in mid-river, this despite tho fact that the Liverpool landing stage in nearly half a mile in length and was fully in commission tho wholo time. The AVhito Star liner Celtic carried 2095 passengers, the Cunard liner Carmania about 2000, tho Dominion liner Haverford 1377, and the AA'hite Star Australian liner Ceramic 42(ff*the majority of whom were brought to the liners by special trains to the Riverside Railway Station, which adjoins the landing stage. Laburnum, and Koromiko. TRELEVAN TO LOAD PHOSPHATES. Advice has bean received that tho next loading- at Nauru Island for Auckland will be the' Trelevan, replacing the AVaimarino. The Trelevan will be due at the island on the 19th inst., and should be at Auckland about November 5 to discharge 7000 tons of phosphate*.

THE SOUTH AFRICA. The steamer South Africa arrived at Auckland from Capetown and Durban, via Australian ports, early on Saturday morning to discharge about 1000 tons of wattle bark, maize, and dried fruits from Capo ports. The South Africa, is owned by the Capo Explosive Company (Ltd.), an offshoot of the De Beer Diamond Mining Company. She is n regular' trader between the Cape and Australia, but has not visited Auckland before. Tak'ng explosives and South African produce from tho Capo to Australian porta, she returns to the Capo with Australian produce. On her nrcsent voyage the South Africa discharged 3000 cases of explosives at Adelaide, 2500 cases at Melbourne, and 17,590 cases as well as a quantity of produce at Sydney, before she came to Auckland. The vessel left Durban about the same time as the missing steamor Baron Blantyre, which has not been heard of since she left Durban. Tho South Africa completed loading at Capetown and sailed from there for Adelaide on August 21. Terrific gales ano mountainous seas were experienced almost all the way across tho Indian Ocean. bin direction of the storms was behind the South Africa, and saved her from being badly damaged. During the- 27 days’ passage to Adelaide the vessel’s decks were almost constantly flooded fore and aft by the heavy seas that broke on board. Tho only damage done was to some, deck fittings which weio washed away. Fine weather was experienced from Sydney to Auckland. The South Africa carries a crew of 55 all told. The Union Company’s intercolonial steamor Manuka arrived in the stream at AA ellmgton at 315 p m on Tuesday from Sydney. The Alanuka left Sydney at 4.10 P- m - Friday last, after waiting for the Bullish mails, and experienced light south and southeasterly winds, smooth seas, with a considerable head swell, and dull overcast weather throughout the trip. . - She discharged the following cargo:-9-cast-iron pipes, 4965 pieces timber 2645 cases fruits, 100 boxes macaroni. 100 bags dry colour, 60 bags asbestos, 200 cases desserts, 200 chests tea, 400 bags rice, 384 sacks bran, 600 cases candles, 75 cases pound, 3 cages lions, 1 lorry lions, and transhipments ex the following steamersi: Hagen, Ormuz, Burwah, Gogra, Lady 160bel, Riverina, Kanowana.
