HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS.

FOOTBALL CLUB SMOKE CONCERT. The members of the Otago High School Old Boys’ Association Football Club were entertained last night at a smoko concert by the older members of the club. Mr Herbert Webb (president) was in tho chair. The Chairman, in his opening remarks, referred at some length to tho earliest football matches of which there was record. The first match was commenced on September 9. 1871, between the High School and the University, and was continued tho following Saturday. The School scored one goal the first Saturday, and the University scored one the following week, tho match being drawn. The School’s goal was scored by an old boy, this showing that old boys then played for the school. Several matches followed, and (hen in 1893 the Old Boys Olub was formed. It was launched in 1909, and had since had a very satisfactory recoid. At the time it was formed it was the only active organisation of old boys. Mr E J. Anderson proposed the toast ot “The C'Up Winners.” It. was not he said, the fact that the senior eleven had won the cup that made him feel so honoured in proposing the toast. It was because the team had done so much to keep alive the school spirit.” There were several features connected with winning the cup this year. T-ho, first was that the Old Boys had won it in the diamond jubilee year of tho school. The second was that it had boon won from the Seacliff Club, which, by winning the Chatham Cup, had established itself as a leading team in the dominion The beaclill Club had met Old Boys on three occasions, and on not one of those had it been able to lower tho Blue and White colours The third was that three members of the first eleven which represented the club when it first entered senior football in _ 1911 had played an important part m winning tno cup this year. They wore G. R. Realm. J. Race, and R. Allan. The winning goal in the final had been scored by the first-named after receiving a mass from J. Race, i nor to this year the club had also won the cup in 1915 and in 1921. On behalf of Hie-Otago Football Association, ho congratulated the club on its success, and asked Mr G. K. Beake to accept the cup. Mr Peake replied on behalf of the club. The following toasts were also honoured; —“The King”: ‘’The School,” proposed by Mr E J Smith, and replied to by Mr W. j Morrell; “Old Boys’ Society.” proposed hv Mr P S, Anderson, and replied to bv Mr J. A. Park; “O.F.A. and Referees, proposed by Mr L. S. All# rnethy. and replied to by Messrs J. Milbnrn. D. M. Bneddin" and Rutherford; “Kindred Snorts proposed bv Mr M. G. MTmies, and replied to by Mr G. A. Nelson. Items were contributed by Messrs J. Deakcr, A. R. Gard’ner, P S Anderson. L. Fnrens. F. Haig. G. M. Salmond, J. Haig T. A. Kinmont, and Major Dampen. A number of selections were rendered by Begg’s orchestra.
