GRAVES AT GALLIPOLI.
REPORT BY COMMISSIONER. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Jun© 26. A report received by the Minister of Defence on the work of the Imperial Graves Commissioner at Gallipoli states that in September last, and . until after the New Sear, the staff was warned to be ready to evacuate its. quarters, as they were in range of the Turkish guns. The danger passed away, and the work proceeded, but was hampered by wet weather. During the present summer it is hoped that good progress will be made. All the cemeteries on the hill but seven are now walled, and tree planting is going on. At Suvla four cemeteries are walled, and plana are ready for the Mudros cemetery. The staff has had no trouble with the local Turks, “apart from ther usual acts of brigandage in autumn, when they shot at and robbed workmen employed by the Com. mission.”
