It is to be hoped that rhe merchants and tradesmen of the City will in no niggardly manner respond to the appeal of the Committee and place their names opposite such amounts as will dc honour to the occasion. It may induce a little liberality in this respect to state that the following merchants have each presenter the committee with a hogshead of ale for the great festival to the poor and children, viz.J. Jones and Co.. Cargill and Co,, Dalgety and Co., W. H. Reynolds, Burke Bros., S. S. and A. Lazarus, Monson, Law, and Co.. J. Griffin, Richardspn and Booth, J. flinch and C*f. . . A full meeting of persons interested in forming “The Horticultural Society of Otago’’ was held in M’Cubbin’s Hotel in Rattray-street yesterday evening. Mr Nicol was elected chairman. . . Mr Bogg was elected president of the society, Mr Jolly, vice-president; Mr J. Wilson, treasurer; Mr James Pryor, secretary; and Messrs George Matthews, Allen, Bruce, Clarkson. Ro?s, Hurst, Carter, and Anderson, gardeners; and Messrs Armstrong, A. Wilson, Young, Douuie, amateur members of the committee. . ,
