BELGIAN RAILWAYS RESTORED
The Belgian State Railways, which were left in a ruined condition by the Germans, have, owing to strenuous efforts on the part of the Administration, almost regained their pre-war state (stales the Brussels correspondent of the Daily Mail). At the armistice only 279 railway engines remained.- To-day nearly 5500 are in service, and (he authorities have had partly or wholly to reconstruct 1419 bridges and tunnels,' 194 stations. 226 depots and shops, and 30 generating stations.
