FRENCH WORLD FLIGHT

ABANDONMENT ORDERED. TOO MANY MISHAPS. PARIS, June 10. Members of tho French 'Air Mission who were to have flown round the world, will be ordered to abandon the attempt in consequence of numerous mishaps. After much delay in starting, Lieutenants Picard and Madon traversed Italy. When crossing the Tunis, Lieutenant Picard was obliged to land on tho rocky island of Pantellaria, near Sicily. Tho machine burst into Haines, and Lieutenant Picard’s clothing caught fire. Ho rushed into the sea, and was rescued by the inhabitants, but was seriously injured. Lieutenant Madon also landed at Pantoilaria, but the machine rested on the top of a A third airman is ill at Palermo. Only one pilot remains with an undamaged machine.
