NEW ZEALAND APPLES,

THE PAKEHA SHIPMENT. PRICES MAINTAINED. .Fhom Oob Own Coekespondent.) LONDON, May IS. Producers will be gratified to know that still another shipment of apples, that of the Pakeha, has arrived in quite good condition. There are very few American apples about, so that in this respect the market is favourable. Both the Armagh shipment and tha Pakeha are now being offered, and prices are keeping up—about 4s in advance of Australian fruit. Newtons are bringing 15s per case, Cleopatras from 14s to 15s, Cox’s from 16s to 20s, and other varieties from 11s to 14s. It should here be said that the Cox’s bv these last two vessels are not quite up to tha usual New Zealand standard, but they have a reputation and people are willing to pay fancy prices for them for the West End trade. Several others in the same case were cut open, but were found to be quite sound. In a case of Cleopatxaa four apples were found to have brown heart, and the remainder were all right. The question that arises is: If suffocation is tha cause of the trouble, why were these isolated apples found in cases of otherwise sound apples? Why was not tha whole case affected*
