DUNEDIN BROADCASTING STATION.

*» Tlio programme transmitted by the Dunedin Broadcasting Station last night exceeded all expectations. This was the first occasion on which vocal and instrumental items were transmitted by 4YB, and the results were oertainly splendid. The first item, "If 1 Might Come to iTou," by Mr R. H. Bryant, who enjoys the distinction of being the first singer in New Zealand to have his voice broadcast to the whole of the country, came through splendidly, and from then on the telephone rang incessantly with requests for encores. Mr H. Hunter recited "A. Hindu's Paradise," and though he was standing a little too far from the microphone at first, later his voice came through very well. A cornet solo, "Until," by Mi Willers, was exceptionally good, very loud, and clear. Mr H. Batcham played "Melody in F" on the violin, and as soon as he concluded the telephone rang with a, request for more. Master L. Moller gave a recitation, "And So Was I," which came through well, except for the higher pitched words. Mr Ernest Brake rendered a very fine item, "I'll Sing Thee Songs of Araby," which was absolutely perfect. A humorous recitation, "I'm Excited," by Mr J. i>. M'Connell,, was very much appreciated, and several requests were received for more, but, unfortunately, he had gone. Earlier in the evening Mr M'Connell recited-"I Do Like an Egg for My Tea," which was also well applauded. Mr Batcham gave for an encore "Serenade," by Shubert, but though clear, this selection was much fainter than previously. The programme concluded with a pianoforte selection by Miss Frye. Miss Elsie Bryant provided the accompaniments, and her playing came through extremely well. Judging from the enthusiastic reports received during the evening, listeners were well satisfied with the first programme from 4YB, and if the standard is maintained there will certainly be a great future before broadcasting.
