An Italian of Turin has paid 40,000 hro for the famous stove in which the infamous “Bluebeard” Landru used to destroy the remains of his scores of fiancees. What a charming domestic sense this purchaser must have in order to wish to possess that solid symbol of Landru’s burning devotion. And yet, it is not essentialy different from the glorified body-snatching which, under scientific auspices and persistent timely publicity, is rifling the tomb of Pharaoh Tutanlihamen. It is well enough to enrich our knowledge of the art and life and belief of 3300 years ago, but it is gruesome sacrilege to unwind the mummy of king or slave, though so long dead.
