(Received May 30, at 0.10 a.m.) In the course of a debate on the defence vote, the Minister of Defence stated that the plan at which the department aimed was a permanent force of 5000, an active citizen force of 15,000, Defence Rifle Associations numbering 150,000 members, and a Royal Naval volunteer Reserve of 1215, giving an approximate total of 170,000, with 50,000 cadets.
