NEW ZEALAND MONEY FOR RUSSIA. KITCHENS AT TOMSK. IFbom Odb Own Correspondent.) LONDON, March 17. Sir James Allen has received a communication from Mr Conrad Hoffmann, of the European Student Belief Fund, the headquarters of which are at Geneva, enclosing a letter of appreciation from the Professors of the Tomsk University for tho help to students which New Zealand has made possible. Since last September £1367 subscribed in the dominion has been handed over to the Student Relief Fund, and all of this has been used for feeding students at Tomsk, Siberia. One thousand students in the institutions of Higher Learning in this place are receiving a 'daily meal. Of these 588 are in the University, 352 in the Technical Institute, and 60 in the Polyteohnical Institute, llieso students represent 25 per cent, of the entire student body. As regards the homes they come from, these 1000 students are distributed as follow:—From peasant homes, 150; from workmen’s homes, 153; from office employees’ homes, 387; from professional homes, 164; from homes of former merchants, 64; from homes of artisans, 39; and from homes of clergy, 33. Following the example set m the famine areas, kitchens have been named after tho countries or districts which have contributed relief, and the New Zealand Kitchen will be a name well known among a fair percentage of the students there.'

Mr Hoffmann writes; “We have advised Mr Gibson to be sure to send you from lime to time detailed reports of the actual operations, so that you can inform the generous contributors from New Zealand of the groat help which their gifts are making possible.” From various professors representing several institutions comes the following: “Th© professors and assistants of the Tomsk University and Technological Institute beg to inform you of the deep gratitude that they feel for tho attention that the European Student Belief paid to the needs of the Tomsk High Schools, and sincerely thank them for the relief delivered.”
